Let’s choose the right makeup. Print E-mail
Sunday, 02 December 2007

It is pleasant to look at those women whose makeup corresponds to their contrast level and is in keeping with the color of their clothes. How to choose the color of cosmetics to match our clothes? It’s really not an easy task. First of all, you should take into consideration what contrast level you have and in what color gamut (warm, cold or neutral) you would like to have your clothes. What should one do to have an ideal makeup, which would be in keeping with the clothes of any color?

Owing to the system of choosing makeup, which suggests three simple stages, you will easily learn how to use the color of your cosmetics, so that to achieve the greatest effect.

The first stage.

Determine the level of contrast. The level of contrast is the correlation between the tone of your skin and the intensity of hair color. Firstly, you should determine the complexion whether it is light (ivory tone of foundation) or normal (beige tone of foundation) Then determine the color and the tint of your hair: whether it is fair (ashy, blond and so on), normal (golden-hazel, chestnut, etc) or dark (all the tints of black color) The combination of these two factors determines your contrast level.

If you have light complexion
and fair hair your contrast
level is low.

If you have light complexion and chestnut hair your contrast
level is middle

If you have light complexion
and dark hair your contrast
level is high.
If you have not very dark
complexion and fair hair your
contrast level is low.
If you have dark complexion
and chestnut hair your contrast
level is from low to middle.
If you have very dark complexion
and dark hair your contrast leve
l is from middle up to high.

When choosing your makeup you should also consider the tone of skin.

For example, three women use red lipstick. The effect is different. If a woman has dark complexion and dark hair (middle-high contrast level) then this lipstick looks, as a rule, naturally. If a woman has dark complexion and neither very dark nor very fair hair (middle contrast level), then the lipstick looks effectively. But if a woman has light complexion and fair hair (low contrast level), then it looks too extravagant and may be recommended only for the evening makeup.

The second stage.

Pay much attention to your clothes. The color of your clothes will affect on your makeup. All the colors can be divided into three categories: warm, neutral and cold, depending on the color of the half-tint.
The colors with yellow half-tints are warm, the colors with blue half-tints are cold. Neutral colors (white, black gray and others) belong to the intermediate category, which can be referred neither to the warm nor to the cold color gamut.
It is important to remember that the color of rouge, lipstick and nail polish should be the same and it should be in keeping with the color of your clothes. It is called color harmony and you should always remember about it when choosing clothes and cosmetics. (Both cold and warm, as we well as neutral colors go well with neutral
colors: black, white and gray).

The third stage.

Try to formulate what effect you would like to achieve: natural, classical or evening and extravagant. If you want to have natural makeup you should choose the tints, which are close to the tone of your complexion. Classical makeup underlines the contrast between the tone of your complexion and the color of your hair. The evening makeup is based on sharp contrast between the tone of your makeup and your individual color gamut.

Make the final decision and start makeup. Don’t forget about the technique of makeup.

The ”dictionary” of color gamut.

Warm colors: the colors with yellow or golden half-tints.
Cold colors: the colors with blue half-tints.
Neutral colors: the colors, which have neither yellow nor blue half-tints. Besides, the tints, which have a little amount of color and/ or those, which go well both warm and cold colors.
Intermediate colors: such colors as turquoise, green and purple or the colors, which half-tint is difficult to identify.

The following examples will help you to combine the tints of your cosmetic with the style and color of your clothes.

Bright tones. The main task, which you face when choosing your makeup that will be in keeping with the bright colors of your clothes is to achieve color harmony. Remembering about contrast level, choose the tints of makeup, which are as intense as your clothes or a little bit brighter.

Pastel tones. Put your makeup in pastel tones with easy touches. We recommend combining soft tender tones of eye shadows with the corresponding tints of lipstick and rouge.

Clothes with flower ornament, check work or gay-colored. If your gay-colored or check work clothes has the equal proportion of warm and colt tones, then choose either warm or cold gamut of makeup.

If either cold or warm color is dominated in your clothes, then choose it as the main color in your makeup.
One can use the eye shadows and lipstick of the same color as one of the tints of the clothes.

Black color. Black color will allow you to be braver, when choosing cosmetics. You can make your eyes very impressive with the smoke-colored eye shadows. Choose the lipstick and rouge of the darker or brighter tints in the same color gamut – either warm or cold one.

The tints of red color. Pay attention to the half-tints of the red clothes. Choose the cold color gamut for cold red color and warm color gamut for warm red color. It is important to choose the right tone of red lipstick because it is difficult to combine pink and coral tints of lipstick with red tones of clothes.
